"Living is a performance... and vice versa"

Résumé
In his book "Ways of being alive", Baptiste Morizot invites us to think of the evolution of our organism as a "sedimentary accumulation of animal and sometimes vegetable ancestry". Our bodies are haunted by these ancestralities that define our physiological qualities and participate in our aesthetic judgement. This chapter shows that performance is based on memories buried in our bodies and paradoxically on the need to free ourselves from representations that hinder our changes of habit. With his body, through his body, the artist performs buried memories, forgotten physicalities, summoning to the present all the extinct species through which we have passed. The performance art discussed in this text is invented as the ability to travel in parallel dimensions to which humans no longer have access or only rarely.
Dans son ouvrage "Manières d'être vivant", Baptiste Morizot nous invite à penser l'évolution de notre organisme comme une « accumulation sédimentaire d'ascendances animales et parfois végétales ». Notre corps est hanté par ces ancestralités qui définissent nos qualités physiologiques et participent à notre jugement esthétique. Ce chapitre témoigne que la performance s'appuie sur des mémoires enfouies dans notre corps et paradoxalement sur la nécessité de se libérer des représentations qui entravent nos changements d'habitudes. Avec son corps, par son corps, l'artiste performe des souvenirs enfouis, des physicalités oubliées, convoque au présent toutes les espèces disparues par lesquelles nous sommes passés. L'art-performance dont il est question dans ce texte s'invente comme l'aptitude à voyager dans des dimensions parallèles auxquelles l'humain n'accéderait plus ou seulement rarement.
