Intersectionality on Screen

Abstract

This article focuses on the importance of the contributions of recent TV series and films to the validation and clarification of the concept of intersectionality «on screen». It analyses series and popular films where this concept is used to describe the complex oppressions experienced by characters. Intersectionality thus viewed onscreen is a necessary concept, and it allows the viewer to understand how women’s very identities are themselves intersectional, and how domination is defined by multiple oppressions. I conclude by showing how these works claim intersectionality not only as a critical concept that allows to see the imbrications of injustices, but also as a project for uniting struggles for justice.
